Industrial Athletic Athletes

CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION
Canterbury Rugby source the gym equipment for our team through Industrial Athletic because we trust them to provide quality, robust, durable equipment to suit our needs. A one size fits all approach doesn't work for a rugby team because we have such different athletes with individual needs, and Industrial Athletic understand that.

SIMON THOMAS
Canterbury Rugby's Strength and Conditioning Coach, Simon Thomas, said the partnership with Industrial Athletic was servicing the team really well: "We really value the input and advice we receive from Rob and his team because we know that they've personally and rigorously tested all of the equipment they provide and, being New Zealand owned, they are easily accessible and available to consult at all times. The quality equipment, knowledgeable advice and innovative products and ideas that Industrial Athletic has provided us has helped to shift our high performance programme to the next level."

CENTRAL STAFGS
Industrial Athletic provide targeted equipment to all of the eight Central District Associations for the coming season while also working alongside the Central Stags performance and coaching department directed by Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Nick Webb and Stags Head Coach Heinrich Malan.
Central Districts Cricket chief executive Neil Hood welcomed Industrial Athletic, noting the relationship is a landmark moment in broadening our sponsorship in our professional department. “It’s an exciting direction for the Stags and our eight districts, and we are thrilled to be taking this step together and working on future initiatives with Industrial Athletic he said.

BAILEY ROGERS
Blenheim-based Bailey ‘Bam Bam’ Rogers is a little like a superhero without the stupid costume; this year she set and achieved her huge goal of joining the Kiwi team of weightlifters at the Commonwealth games. What the full-time athlete and coach loves most about CrossFit is the community it provides and she sees competition as an extension of that. Bailey is certainly living up to her goal of being remembered as someone who is “dedicated to becoming better at their chosen sport and showing that hard work and commitment pay off”.

CALLUM GIFFORD
Six-time NZ BMX racing national champion Callum ‘The Bear’ Gifford came into CrossFit because it provided another outlet for his competitive streak. Known for his solid work ethic and quite your 10,000 hour expert, the staunch CF East Tamaki supporter has spent the past two years working his arse off – literally! Callum has a somewhat intimidating presence – he sports a beard worthy of a lumberjack and a build reminiscent of a bear – but under the rugged exterior ‘lurks’ a big, genuine softie who likes to act like a clown at times…

GARRY JONES
After spending 22 years as part of the NZ Military Elite, Garry aka Gaza was introduced to CrossFit by his son in 2011. Not one to waste time, he became a Masters’ podium finisher in 2012 and 2013 at the holy grail of CrossFit, the CrossFit Games. Garry is passionate about getting our younger people into the sport and away from bad social issues and influences. When he’s not in the Box, Gaza spends quality time with his family or roaming around the bush with his rifle.

JOELENE NEVILLE
IA poster girl Joelene Neville (better known as Jojo) puts the lady back into strength sports. The former track and field athlete caught the CrossFit bug when she saw a group of people practicing with kettlebells at her gym and one year later she competed in her first Regionals, and is turning heads with her strong and steadily improving performances. Of her performances thus far she rates Grace and Nancy as some of her better WODs. “Give me short, fast and heavy workouts and I’ll smash it out,” is Jojo’s motto. Nice.

MEGAN SIGNAL
Megan is an exceptionally dedicated athlete with an immense talent matched only by her mega-watt smile. When she’s not working as a designer in the apparel industry she coaches and fuels her CrossFit addiction at CrossFit East Tamaki. Megan’s philosophy is that if you are terrified of something, simply believing you can overcome it will allow you to not only let go of the fear but be able to perfect the very thing you once thought was impossible. It’s this mental fortitude and determination that will hold Megan in good stead as she steps up to the challenge of the Teams Competition at the 2015 CrossFit Games with her Zak’s Pack teammates.

KEVIN MANUEL
NZ’s beloved number one CrossFitter, Kevin Manual, trains whenever he can around the most important thing in his life: his wife and two young kids. The ex rugby player started doing CrossFit in the off season to stay fit for his sport, and before he knew it he placed 4th at the Regionals in 2013 and 2014, was placed 29th in the world, and he now also owns Tauranga CrossFit and part-owns Mount CrossFit. On top of that he enjoys his often physical job as a viticulture contractor, which he says complements his CF activities just perfectly.

KYP KOTIZIKAS
Kyp gets up at the crack of dawn each day to work as a fish auctioneer at his family business, then ventures to the CrossFit Box he proudly owns, Trailblazer CrossFit in Christchurch, to coach clients during the day and by night. As a prolific Facebooker, Kyp is pretty famous in the CrossFit social media world. He eats everything and anything is renowned for always being hungry (beware: never send him to a burger joint with your credit card). Oh, and don’t dare bug him on Friday nights, because that’s strictly his ‘me time’ watching Disney movies.

LUKEY MCGRUER
Under-19 XGames rock climbing competitor ‘Lukey the Labrador’ is another of the IA team to cut his teeth in the NZ Army. Luke is known for his incredible training feats, bordering on the insane! He has done the hopper deck for time, 1000 pull-ups for time, and other feats of strength and conditioning that would destroy us mere mortals. Something must be in the water in his Tauranga ‘hood’ and once we figure out what it is we’ll have it for sale on our site....

NICOLA HANNA
n the short time IA Pocket Rocket Nicola Hanna has been competing she’s become known as a genuine all-rounder with a good skill-set and balance of CrossFit attributes. She demonstrated this beautifully with a win at the Pound 4 Pound in 2013. When it comes to her own training, Nic loves Olympic lifting and gymnastics –and seeing how quickly she can improve at her game. Nic is inspiring others to do what they really love, and to push their limits like she does – we at Team IA are proud to support her in her quest.

Jono Parsons
UK-born, Palmerston North-bred Jono Parsons was initially attracted to bodybuilding, but soon realised that he was becoming obsessed with lifting large amounts of iron, rather than the quest for size. Just one year on, Jono has already taken regional and national titles and is the holder of the record for the biggest ever raw deadlift by a junior. To say this humble, talented young 23 year old has potential might be the understatement of the century and we are super proud to have him on the team!
